Abstract :
Routine diagnosis and treatment monitoring of brain tumors is usually based on contrast-enhanced full form MRI. However, the capacity of conventional MRI to differentiate tumor tissue from post therapeutic effects following surgical resection, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and/or immunotherapy may be limited. Metabolic imaging using full PET can provide relevant additional information on tumor metabolism, which allows for more accurate diagnosis especially in clinically equivocal situations. This study compares imaging features of conventional and advanced MRI with amino acid PET tracer O-(2-[18F] fluoroethyl-L-tyrosine (FET) to differentiate recurrence versus radiation necrosis in grade III and IV gliomas.
